Englewood Cliffs, NJ—Alliance Shippers Inc. was honored with a SmartWay® Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as an industry leader in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency. Alliance continues to demonstrate top environmental performance by effectively arranging transportation of its’ customers freight with environmentally efficient modes of transportation. To that end, Alliance chooses to utilize railroad intermodal services for the line-haul segment (resulting in a carbon footprint of 56 to 71 % as compared to a traditional movement by highway) and places high priority on choosing SmartWay certified carriers for the originating and final mile movement of customer cargo. Alliance transports temperature sensitive cargo in its fleet of 2100 state of the art CARB compliant 53’ refrigerated trailers; all of which are equipped for wireless remote control of the refrigeration/heating unit. This allows for total remote operating authority to start, stop, adjust temperatures as necessary and monitor fuel burn and levels. Alliance has recently installed solar panels on the roofs of its refrigerated trailers to reduce dependency on battery power as the engines call for electrical support in the operation of the cooling/heating process. Additionally, Alliance has installed roof top solar panels on its 27 acre, 360,000 square foot, 186 door cross dock operation located in Keasbey, NJ., reducing dependency on sourcing electricity from the local utility grid. Companywide, Alliance encourages responsible use of energy, recycling and reduction of paper consumption at each of its operating and sales locations located throughout North America.
